Foundations of Distance Education and Learning (OMDE601)
Knowledge and Skills
Extensive research have been conducted on the evolution of distance education and its ability to transform throughout history.
Initial Definition of Distance Education (OMDE 601)
My journey began with the simple definition of Distance Education.
Distance Education is teaching by an expert in a specified field of study; and learning by why of planned objectives and course materials, while teacher and learner are in separate physical locations facilitated by a two way media using various forms of synchronous and asynchronous interaction.
In my study of the definition of distance education. I learned the definition is intended to accentuate distance education as an evolving methodology. In defining distance education, emphasis should be placed on the ability to transform with the times. The key factor in distance education is the notion of revolution. Distance education must answer the call of supply and demand addressing the psychological, social and cultural period in which it is experienced.
In studying the definition of distance education, my enthusiasm about MDE has been re-ignited. There are no boundaries to distance education. It's exciting to be on the cutting edge of technology. I am excited about learning how the use of technology can make teaching and learning more relevant to the digital learner and to enhance learning for the diverse needs of students. Distance education can be used as a mechanism for transformation and I am excited to be a part of it.k here to edit.

Distance Education Aptitude and Readiness Scale (DEARS)
Distance Education Aptitude and Readiness Scale (DEARS)

Dr. Bob Kizlik designed this questionnaire to assess the likelihood of success for students studying distance learning. The premise is that the amount of effort put into learning is a direct result of ones success in the program. My score indicated that I should not have difficulty with the DE courses.
I received my undergraduate degree as a online student. I understand the discipline and commitment it takes to be successful. Once I become comfortable with the format and set a logical pattern for myself, I tend to flow through the course rather smoothly. In taking this assessment, I discovered that I am not motivated to go pass the call of duty. This is particularly because there is just not enough hours in the day to accomplish all of my responsibilities. Another point that was interesting is that online teachers are facilitators, therefore the bulk of the responsibility is on the learner. As a result, the biggest complaint I have regarding online learning is not being able to ask and receive an answer to a question at 2:00 am when you are reading a chapter and have questions.here to edit.
